Song Analysis essay

The Vietnam War, also known as the second Indochina war or the 10,000-day war, is one of the biggest wars in history, involving the United States of America, South Vietnam and North Vietnam. Vietnam War begins in the year f 1 946 and has killed more than 3 million people including 58,000 American troops. Vietnam War, 2015). War became more dramatic when clips and videos of the war are broadcasted through the television and are viewed by billions of people around the world. Since then, people began to protest to the government about the war, which is inhumane and violent. Popular bands and vocalist started to act and show their expression through music they made. John Lennox and Paul McCarthy started to make a song called “Revolution”, which is sing by one of the most legendary band, The Battles. John Lennox and Paul McCarthy expressed their opinions through the “Revolution” song. It was the first political song that they both had written.

The song tells us mostly about the criticism about the war to the government. (An Analysis of the Song Revolution, 2010). In the first six lines of the song, which sounds: You know we all want revolution Well, you know We all want to change the world You know we all want evolution can tell that they both wants revolution same as what the government wants. Government and people against them has the same goals to change the world, but in the different way. Government wants everything to be instant, which is by war, while people against it want the world change in the way that peace plays an important role to achieve the goal.

In the line when the writer says “We all want to change the world but when you talk about destructions don’t you know that you can count me out” shows that the writer really want to help to find a solution to the cold war, but they don’t want any violence and destructions. If the government wants that to happen, John and Paul disagree and don’t want to participate to change the worlds. In the song the line ‘You ay you got a real solution well, you know we’d all love to see the plan”, it is saying that the writers were hoping that the government has a good solution rather than violence and monetary loss, because they are sick of that solution.

John and Paul was basically does not like the cold war, mostly because of the communist leaders and the communism itself. This was shown from the last nine lines of song: You say you’ll change the constitution We all want to change you head You tell me it’s the institution You better free you’re mind instead But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao You anti going to make it with anyone anyhow Don’t you know it’s goanna be all right They both are trying to express their feeling towards communism. They want to change the perspective of people about communism basically.

They were expressing that people around you still can help you when you don’t follow communism, but once you are still loyal to the communist leader, you will not have anyone that believes in you. They still have hope in life when you are not following communism. The end of the song says a repetition of “it’s goanna be all right, all right, all right… ” Meaning that the audience should optimist in anyway to end the problem with the “peace” way. There is still hope in everything including this problem.

John and Paul think positively that there are still a good solution to the war that has nothing to do with violence and destruction. Believe that the song written by John Lennox and Paul McCarthy was a very powerful message to persuade the government to stop the war and to other people to help them to send the powerful lyrics to the government. The songs brought by The Battles shoes that people can express their opinions and feelings through music. The song was then became popular since the Vietnam War and still continues to be popular as people notice the powerful lyrics.

John Lennox also put more feelings towards the war through other songs such as “Imagine” and “Give Peace a Chance”, which is also very successful to touch people hearts about violence.
