While the company’s success can be attributed to the Stave’s great leadership, it is their core values, creativity as one of them, that have shaped their success. Apple is known to think different and make good and different products. These rules are part of the decision making process of the organization to establish a competitive business presence.
The present paper seeks to reveal the Apple’s approaches to creativity, the major obstacles and conceptual locks that face the company, and their tools for fostering creative problem solving. But innovation alone cannot guarantee good results. We have seen businesses that have invented breakthrough products, but went bankrupt, and apple always take in consideration this factor. Apple’s second approach to creativity is through team work, involvement, and coordination among individuals. Apple unlocks the potential that exists in every employee working for them.
A good example that illustrates how apple approach creativity through incubation is the recent demographic breakdown of its workforce. Apple reported that 18 percent of its employees are black and Hispanic, which compares to five percent for Google and Twitter and six percent for Faceable and Yahoo (mercury’s. Com,Julia Love and Patrick May, 2014). We can conclude that apple approaches problems by diversification of its human resources. Employees working in a dynamic and diverse workplace can solve problems easily since there would always be producing more than one solution.
Another creative approach to solve problems that Apple could implement is the investment approach. One of Google’ secret to continuous dervish is persuading rapid goal achievement and growth. Apple, for instance, could acquire companies in other industries to strengthen its business portfolio. Thus, resulting in a strong competitive posture. While Apple, as of 2014, has only acquired less than 62 companies (Wisped, 2014); all of them in tech industry. Samsung Corporation has acquired more than 1 50 startups including companies from other industries.
As a result, Samsung secured multiple income streams form different industries which help the company to overcome any problem that it faces in the cellular market. Therefore, the investment approach would be a good strategy for apple to continue its leadership in the cellular industry. Nowadays, apple is facing two major obstacles. First, the leadership challenge. Even though it’s been three years since Tim Cook helm at Apple, The Company is still in the middle Of a leadership transition that rises questions by consumers as well as investors.
Steve Jobs, as he was a leader With a strong vision, was a man who knew the technology, the market, and he could combine all of this altogether in new revolutionary products. But the Steve job’s success was built upon his ability to motivate and solve problems when Apple was facing a lot of them. Nowadays, Apple is missing the innovation. Tim Cook doesn’t have the charisma to develop and spread the message to Apple consumers and create efficient and effective buzz campaigns. This is mostly due to one of the conceptual type of blocks known as the commitment.
It seems that Tim Cook is approaching problems the way Steve Jobs used to, but that could be an issue since it would result in stereotyping based on the past experiences. For fostering creative problem solving, Apple should follow the following three principles. First, the pull people apart and put people together principle. Apple could let individuals work alone as well as with teams. It’s well-known that Apple’s major competitor use this principle because it is very efficient.
Individuals would be able to work in different work environments in which they could produce innovative and creative ideas to solve problems. Second, monitor and prod principle, Apple could talk to customers and identify their expectations both in advance or after a sale takes place. As a result, the company could collect feedback and generate ideas and solutions according o what customers wants. Yet, there is an item under this principle that would not be workable for apple. In fact, putting pressure on an employee is motivating, but creative minds tend to prefer working under no pressure to produce innovative ideas.. Finally, the last principle of creative solving problems is the reward multiple roles principle. Individuals are encouraged to play multiple roles to enable creativity and reward them for playing such roles. The idea is to reward people for playing one of the four roles. First, the Idea champion role, apple old reward the person who comes up with creative problem solutions.
Second, the sponsor or mentor, which rewards the person who provides the resources, environment, and encouragement for idea champion to work on his idea. Third, the orchestrates or the facilitator. Individuals who bring together cross-functional groups and necessary support to facilitate implementation of creative ideas. To conclude, Apple proves that innovation and imagination plays, especially in the electronics industries, an important role to solve problems. Therefore, it is crucial in think creatively to succeed in the market.
