Increase personal income amongst low and poor income groups. Increase the supply of basic needs such as food and other goods to help combat poverty and hunger. Goal 2 – Achieve Universal Primary Education Targets – Provide school feeding programs to assist children who are living in poverty to attend school. Education is a human right and should be free to all children. The government should increase funding to schools so that education is provided to children at “zero” cost. Goal 3 – Combat HIVE/AIDS, Malaria and Other Diseases Provide free access to essential medicines used to combat these serious diseases.
Increase awareness amongst the nation to help combat the spread of these diseases, for example – increase the awareness of the spread of HIVE and AIDS by discouraging unprotected sex. Goal 4 – Ensure Environmental Sustainability Moves towards a society whereby renewable resources are a main source of energy. Reduce the dependence upon fossil fuels, underground metals, and minerals. Increase awareness amongst the nation to recycle and stop pollution. Increase awareness on issues such as nature conservation and proper water and waste management to help to stop environmental gradation. Goal 5 – Promote Gender Equality and Empower women Eliminate gender stereotypes and discrimination in all schools from primary to secondary. Increase awareness on violence against women.
Guarantee equal job opportunities for women as that of men. Goal 6 – Reduce Child Mortality Parents should be made aware of proper prenatal care such as taking their new-born babies for vaccinations. Vaccinations and antibiotics should be made available to new-born children living in poor rural areas. Increase the number of mobile clinics made available to these poor rural areas. Goal 7 Improve Maternal Health Targets “Mothers to be” should be made aware of adopting a healthy lifestyle to ensure a healthy birth of their baby, for example -? stopping drugs and alcohol as well as tobacco. The government should focus on providing quality health care to mothers.
Basic healthcare and medication should be provided for “mothers to be” living in poor rural areas, for example – folic acid, vitamins and minerals for a healthy childbirth should be made free and available to areas that are in poverty. Increase the number of mobile clinics made available to these poor rural areas. Goal 8 -? Develop a Global Partnership for Development Develop trade with other developing countries to assist in economic growth. Assist in the debt related issues of other developing countries. Provide access to healthcare and essential drugs in developing countries. Help to develop the information and communications infrastructure within these developing countries. By J DIORAMAS – 18 Feb. 2015 @ 14:21 Hi N. Toots Your second goal does not collaborate with that of the United Nations list of Megs.
There is a greater importance for universal primary school for every individual than that of university. One of the main goals is to provide basic primary school education for every single child on earth which should be at no cost to them as well. This will help our children grow into young adults with the knowledge and attributes to help them fight against the likes of oppression and poverty. Re: Assignment 1 -Case study 1: Bhutan and Gross National Happiness by J DIORAMAS – 18 Feb. [email protected] 14:58 Hi M MATT HE firmly agree with your first goal which is to eradicate poverty. Poverty and hunger is one of the main reasons that people eventually turn towards a life f crime.
An increase in crime will affect our country in all sectors such as the economic sector where, for example – business will tend not to invest in our country, Tourist will not want to visit our country and our country will then tend to look very unfavorable amongst the rest of the world. This will also damage our economy. Do not agree with having the combat of HIVE/AIDS, malaria and other diseases as your 6th goal. I firmly believe that the fight against HIVE and AIDS out-weights that of environmental sustainability. HIVE and AIDS are one of the highest causes of deaths in Africa. This should be one of the highest concerns to any individual and government. Hi M MASTODON do not believe that the need for Universal primary education out-weights the need to eradicate poverty and hunger.
The eradication of poverty and hunger should be the number one goal on your list. Yes i do believe that with a proper education one will have the means to fighting against poverty but however poverty and hunger can lead to other serious issues such as crime. Poverty stricken people may eventually buckle under their circumstances and this could lead to issues like murder or robbery. These issues could seriously affect the government and the state of our country. So this is why i believe that the eradication of poverty should be our main priority. By T BOTH. 18 Feb. [email protected] 21:31 Dear student D Dioramas, understand and respect your comment made on 18 February 2015 @ 14:20, but beg to differ!
Poverty is a big deal in our gorgeous country and it should be taken care of in any way, as soon as possible. I, however, suggest that we put education as a number 1 goal, because looking at the bigger picture will show us that if you give the average needs on a plate, our people is going to e expect this on a daily bases- It will let them sit back and relax, because tomorrow they will know that the government is going to fill their tummies. We should help them starve their hunger by educating and motivating our people on building a life for their families, teach them to be a go getter! South Africa does not have a lot of opportunities, but we can definitely create some by educating…
Re: Assignment I-Case study 1: Bhutan and Gross National Happiness by M MATTHEW – 18 Feb. [email protected] 17122 His DIORAMAS Thank you for your feedback. Agreed, it is definitely an MUG that should be listed as a higher priority. Just to elaborate-the fact that it is listed further below on my list does not take away from the importance of this goal. Having said that, in terms of sustaining our environment this MUG ties in closely with the first two Megs listed. Creating/ having an environment which could potentially contribute to creating jobs, being educated will allow one to be more aware of the effects we have on our environment and how we are able to sustain it etc. These are the factors taken into consideration when listing this MUG.
